I have had several requests and inquiries about building a foam sandwich kayak using the same technique we have used on our LR series of A-Class catamarans. My son, Ian, decided to do this since his girlfriend is a lightweight and the cedar boat he built had more displacement than necessary and rode too high in the water. He took plans for the Shearwater Hybrid from Chesapeake Light Craft and used 3/8" foam instead of 1/4" cedar. One of the things unique to the build is that it uses both stitch and glue construction as well as strip-planking. Photo below shows the bottom and side panels stitched together with plastic wire ties.
