The LR5 is another design from Richard Roake. Ian Lindahl provided a lot of input into this design from his experiences with the very successful LR4. Richard keeps pushing the design envelope a bit further with each hull design.
We have made some changes ourselves. We are now using Pro-Set epoxy and may run an intermediate modulus carbon on the outside of the hulls. Foam is still CoreCell M-80.

Foam and Hexcel carbon ready to go up North.
Building frames set up, ready for foam.
Frames were CNC'd from sheets of Starboard. Gorilla Glue and epoxy don't like to
stick to it and it's very easy to run a light coat of release over.
Foam strips in the frame set. Bundles of foam in the background
Carbon on the inside of a hull half with the bulkheads installed.
Three hull halves done on the inside. Five to go for this two boat build.
Hull halves glued and clamped together.
Another good use of Gorilla Glue.
Ready for some sandpaper.
First pair of hulls carboned inside and out. Also added some tight weave 3.7 oz. glass in some spots.
First road trip. Going to Fennville for beams, etc.
Hulls in the nesting jig ready for the beams.
Beam wrapped in carbon
Traveller track recess
Daggerboard slider recess.
Transom modification for DNA rudderhead.
More transom modification.
Almost ready for paint
PAINT JOB TURNED OUT GREAT
Tramp and fittings installed
HullSpeed still has to go on the bottom and
HydroTurf on the deck.
On the water downwind
On the water upwind
HullSpeed now on the bottom,
Bob Webbon on the wire
Hydroturf on the deck.
Ian Lindahl trying it out.
I have a couple of short videos of the first sail. I can't put them on this site, but if you e-mail me I'll send them to you: [email protected]
